SUMMARY:Workshop on Access to Energy Data
DESCRIPTION:Jointly organised and presented by EER and ESMIG \nWorkshop Agenda \n  \nBackground \nWith the roll-out of Smart Meters in Europe\, valuable data becomes available to drive the business processes of diverse market parties. In the first place consumers should be able to benefit from the availability of (their) data\, but also any 3rd party that wants to offer services to consumers with their consent. Going forward the question is not so much who owns the data\, but how data access can be realised in the most efficient way\, non-discriminatory and free of charges for all authorised energy market participants. Crucial in truly opening up new market opportunities for consumers\, suppliers and 3rd party service providers operating in the energy market space is the question what approaches will be most suitable and what kind of technologies will enable new business models to thrive. Standardisation of data exchange and interoperability are key factors for organising the free flow of data. Assuming requirements of data protection regulations can be fulfilled; there are still technical\, regulatory and structural barriers to be overcome. \n  \nObjective \nThe objective of this workshop is twofold. First to discuss the current barriers that 3rd parties are facing to access the data they need for offering consumer focused services. Speakers will present the challenges they are confronted with in local situations\, including current regulatory\, technical and structural barriers. Secondly\, the workshop will highlight solutions to overcome the barriers\, best practices from EU member states and also technology developments that enable more efficient data access. Conclusions of the workshop can be used to feed the work on secondary legislation following the finalisation of the Clean Energy Package. \n  \nAbout the organisers \nESMIG is the European voice of smart energy solution providers. Our members are European companies that provide products\, information technology and services for multi-commodity metering\, display and management of energy consumption and production at consumer premises. We work closely with EU policy makers and other EU associations to make Europe’s energy and water systems cleaner\, reliable\, more efficient and the European consumer informed\, empowered\, engaged. www.esmig.eu @ESMIG_EU \nEuropean Energy Retailers represent the voice of Independent Energy & Solution Providers in EUwide policy discussions. For achieving well-functioning retail energy markets\, new suppliers and service providers must be able to enter and compete in the market on equal terms. EER actively engages with the EU Institutions and EU member state governments\, regulators as well as other European stakeholders in order to promote effective competition\, energy sector compliance with decarbonisation goals\, the integration of energy markets\, and empowerment of customers. The Association was founded in 2017 by national associations from France (AFIEG)\, Germany (bne)\, Italy (AIGET)\, Spain (ACIE) and Sweden (Oberoende Elhandlare).
